Dubai Retail Partners Unilever for Unwanted Clothing Drive This Ramadan

29 Jul 2019

Dubai, UAE: 15 May, 2019: Dubai Retail, the retail management arm of Dubai Holding, has partnered with Unilever, the global consumer goods giant, for a Ramadan campaign designed to regift unwanted clothing to those less fortunate. The ‘Share a Touch of Love’ campaign sees Dubai Retail and Unilever brands, Comfort and OMO, collaborate for the ninth annual edition of the nation-wide initiative, where UAE residents and tourists donate unwanted clothes at dedicated collection boxes in six Dubai Retail destinations and communities. All clothing items donated at collection boxes in Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), Bay Avenue, Bay Square, Mudon Community Centre, Al Khail Gate Community Centre and Shorooq Community Centre will then be washed using OMO and Comfort products before being distributed to those in need by Emirates Red Crescent. Every year, the ‘Share a Touch of Love’ campaign collects around 200,000 items of clothing, with collection boxes at Dubai Retail-managed locations contributing close to 25,000 male and female clothing items in 2018 alone. With the production of one cotton t-shirt requiring approximately 2,700 litres of water, which is equivalent to three years’ worth of drinking water for one fully-grown adult, Dubai Retail’s commitment to the ‘Share a Touch of Love’ campaign aligns with the central pillars of its long-term CSR strategy: environment responsibility and promoting sustainability. As part of its ongoing sustainability-focused work, Dubai Retail encourages eco-awareness to minimise environmental impact across its managed assets portfolio. Dubai Retail also works with tenants and partners to employ sustainable policies, products and services in a bid to collectively reduce waste and protect natural resources.
